Why You Need to Stop Using Dryer Sheets
If you’re still using dryer sheets or fabric softener then this post is for YOU! I’m so glad that you are ready to learn why it’s time to make the change.
Instead of just a written blog this week, I decided to record a video. Please watch it and let me know what you think!
Or, if videos don’t work for you (like you’re reading this in your cubicle), keep reading below…
If you’re still on the dryer sheet bandwagon - don't feel guilty. It’s OK!
But, let’s try one change that can make a big difference.
Static cling is one of the reasons that people are stuck on dryer sheets. Also, that wonderful “fresh laundry” scent. But I have some tips that will help you ditch the dryer sheets.
Why do I need to ditch the dryer sheets?
Fabric softener and dryer sheets are bad for your health, the environment, and your washer and dryer.
Dryer sheets coat fabric with harmful chemicals that are constantly in contact with your body…on your clothes, sheets, and towels. These chemicals can trigger asthma, are toxic to the reproductive system, and are linked with cancer.
They are also harmful to the environment, both inside and outside your home.
Dryer sheets coat the inside of your dryer and making it less efficient. The residue left within your dryer can clog the lint filter screen, reducing air circulation. If you use dryer sheets you should clean the filter screen monthly with a fine brush, soap, and hot water.
I get why people still use dryer sheets - STATIC CLING! It’s so annoying! But there are some things that can help.
My Detox by Design tips:
Use four or more wool dryer balls to fluff laundry and shorten dryer time. You can add a few drops of essential oil to the wool balls for scent.
Add safety pins to the dryer balls to help collect static.
Add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle when washing.
Don’t over-dry your laundry. Sort loads by fabric type so each individual item will dry around the same time.
I hope you are now convinced!
Please comment if you’ve ditched dryer sheets. What have you found helpful in making the switch?
If you have friends and family still using them, please forward this post to them. It’s an important switch to make!
