You’re not going to want to miss this episode with Kara Barker of Barker House. She shares how she went through the pandemic with twins and came out serving other moms by sharing what she has learned.
Twins AND a Pandemic?! What Kara Barker has Learned From Mom-Life to Share and Help Other New Moms.
Like me, Kara Barker of Barker House Creations, is a “crazy researcher of everything.” In our motherhood and non-toxic journeys, Kara found my Podcast, Facebook page, and ordered from my online store right away. So of course I had to follow her on Instagram.
We started chatting immediately and knew we would become friends and learn so much from each other. So I was super excited for the chance to introduce you to her.
And Kara is doing some really cool things.
Kara has 2 beautiful twin girls who are 16 months old now. Just about 6 weeks after they were born, COVID hit. Everything Kara had been told about being a mom of multiples went out the window.
“We were told it takes a village with twins and well, I was the village.”
There were no mom groups where everyone brought their babies and learned from each other. Her own mom could no longer come over to help. While her husband was at work, it was just her and her twins.
So Kara did what any new mom would do and started Googling and reading and more Googling. In the end she had a ton of notes and took all that information and made it into a routine that worked for her and her family.
So now what?
“I had the babies and once they came I was definitely struggling with my identity with Barker House, because I just felt like a totally different person. And although I love my art and I still do it, I just didn't want that to be so much the focus anymore and I wanted to do something a little different.”
By the way, Kara is an amazing artist! But painting in acrylics with twins running around isn’t always ideal.
“All the notes I made were still in front of me that I could use. So I created this ebook and a lot of people were interested. It was exciting. Going from people following me for art to something else. Luckily I did have a lot of moms there, and I just kept getting more.”
Kara took all her meticulously collected information and combined it into an ebook for new moms. It has great tips to help get through each day and little mom mishaps. It has sections for each stage of infant life with product and gear suggestions. Non-toxic of course because like many of us, becoming a mom started Kara on a journey of clean living.
And clean eating! Kara’s Instagram feed, which is beautiful by the way, is full of homemade goodies that she makes for her girls to get as much nutrition into them as possible. Snack bars and muffins and lots of beautiful homemade food. Many of us make our own baby food but Kara is really keeping her kitchen homemade.
All of this has grown into a branch on the Barker House tree called Wholesome by BH. In this part of her website you’ll find her blog about healthy living and motherhood, recipes, her amazing new ebook, and her latest artistic venture; gorgeous and adorable shirts for moms, babies and kids.
I am so grateful to have connected with Kara as a both a friend and fellow toxin-free guru. She’s down to earth and humble.
“I'm not saying it's so easy, let me show you how to do it. I'm saying, it is hard and overwhelming. Let me show you my wins and what I did to make it easier on me when it was very hard.”
