My kids are back in school and I donβt know about you but it seems like everybody is getting sick again. I mean, it makes sense, right? We have been outside for most of the summer. And now we're getting back together and illness is just spreading like crazy.
I think some other reasons why illness kind of peaks at the beginning of the school year is because we're not taking care of ourselves as much as we should be. Maybe we aren't getting as much sleep or we're not eating as healthy because we're just in this transition period of trying to get back into a new routine after summer.
So we're going to be talking about some tips!
The number one thing that you can do to boost your immunity is to eat healthy food and to minimize the processed and junk food that you're eating. You really want to be eating foods that are high in those vitamins that can help your immunity. So You especially want to be eating foods that are high in zinc, vitamin E and selenium. For some other vitamins you might want to actually be taking a vitamin for them. So like vitamin D, you want to make sure you're always getting enough vitamin D. Here in the Northwest, it's almost impossible for us to get enough vitamin D naturally because we're so far north. We also need to be eating foods and maybe taking vitamins for vitamin B6. Elderberry is a really great herb to boost your immunity. And of course vitamin C. So we want to make sure that we're eating healthy foods and that we're also taking supplements as needed to really help boost that immunity.
We also need to make sure that we are getting good exercise, that we are moving, that we are not sitting in front of our computer all day long, but that we're actually getting some movement and some exercise in. That will also help boost your immunity.
We want to make sure we're drinking a lot of water. I always thought that I was really good about drinking water. And then I started doing the Livy program, trying to just trim down a little bit, lose a little bit of those COVID pounds. I have an episode about that and go back and listen to that. And I started actually tracking how much water I was drinking and I was shocked to really see how much I was not getting. I was really thinking that I was getting a lot of water. But it turns out I'm not doing as good as I should be. So make sure you're getting enough water
You also want to clean any touch points. If someone is sick in your home, you want to make sure that not only do they try and keep their distance, but you also want to make sure that you're cleaning the touch points. So the door handles or the surfaces in your home. And my favorite product for that is actually hydrogen peroxide. It is a very strong but safe killer of germs. It works really well. That's why they use it in doctors offices. So that is what I like to use. If we have illness running through our home.
You also want to focus on getting quality sleep. And one of the things you need to do is to get screens out of your room, out of your bedroom. For a period of time before you go to bed, put away the screens. Because it really does impact our sleep and our sleep quality. We want to be getting a good six to eight hours of quality sleep and going to bed earlier. Making sure that we're really winding down from the day can really help with getting that quality sleep.
You also want to concentrate on going outside, getting fresh air. Getting out in nature can also boost your immunity.
Finally, you want to work on your mindset. For me personally, I love working on my mindset. I am constantly doing meditations. I read a lot of personal development books, and I go to yoga three to four times a week. All of those things really help keep my mind at ease. And it helps me manage my stress. I was recently talking to a friend that was just feeling really anxious. And you know, I've had a lot of periods of time in my life where I've been struggling with anxiety. And I realized that doing yoga three to four times a week has been so so helpful for me in managing my anxiety and it's such a relief to know that I have that resource. I just need to be doing that regularly. You know, for yoga, it's not only that it's like deep breathing and really taking time out in life, is kind of how I see my yoga practice. But it also is exercise and it just makes me feel so good. And I really truly believe it's really helped me with my anxiety and helps me with my sleep. And because it's working on that mindset, it just helps with boosting the immunity.
That's all for today. I hope you got information that will help you stay motivated doing these things so that you will stay healthy this fall and through the winter.
